vacation.

Finally, summer vacation is here. Tomorrow I'll be on a plane heading back home to Canada. I'm taking Tokki, my rabbit home, as well, where she will stay. This is the only chance that I will have to take her, as I don't plan on going straight home when I finish here. I need to get a bit more traveling done. :D I love traveling!
An interesting tidbit - I'll be doing some time traveling on the way. I'll arrive home about an hour before I leave Korea. Gotta love it.

and just when I though my day couldn't get any worse...

I am supposed to be arriving in Busan around now. Obviously, I am not.
I was having such a bad day. It started last night, really, with the ants. Then this morning... more ants. I ended up having to spray my bathroom really well before I left for work. The ants were coming in other cracks in the wall (not the ones that I had sprayed before). Did I mention I HATE ANTS???!!!
I was going to go to Emart to get some hay for Tokki, but I got busy here and didn't leave soon enough. I cleaned out Tokki's cage and got my bag ready to go. On my way to work... my mouth felt kinda strange. My teeth. Well, I somehow chipped my front tooth. Maybe from the plum that I had before I left? The inner corner of my tooth is now very sharp. It doesn't hurt at all, but it is making my whole mouth feel strange. It is not completely obvious, but it is visible. Argh. Just what I needed... a chipped tooth.
After work I took a taxi to Emart to get some hay, and once I was there, realized that it isn't hay that they have, but alfalfa... which is not so good for rabbits as it is too high in calories, and makes them fat. Well, Tokki will have to deal with eating alfalfa until next week when I can order some more online. There are no other places anywhere near here that have any sort of rabbit food.
I was in a huge rush to finish everything so that I could make it to the station on time. My ticket was for the 9pm train from Seoul to Busan. I left early enough so that I would have some time to get something to eat before I had to be on the train. I wandered around the station a bit and the went to catch my train with about 15 minutes to spare. Well.. I knew that my ticket was for Seoul station, but for some reason, I had it stuck in my head that I was leaving from Yongsan Station in Seoul, as, for some reason, I associate that station with the KTX (some KTX trains do leave from Yongsan station... just not the one that I was supposed to be on!!!). So there I was at Yongsan Station trying to catch a train that was going through Seoul Station. ARGH!!! Pure stupidity. The other trains heading for Busan tonight were completely sold out, so I now have a ticket for the 7am train. ARGH. I wasted several hours tonight, only to end up back where I started. And I now have to get up at around 4:30 in order to make the morning train.
AND... the KTX website says that the trains from Seoul to Busan do go through Yongsan station. The people there said it did not. If I find out it did stop in Yongsan, I will be soooooo angry. Not that I can change anything.
My friends were on that train. They got on before Seoul Station, though, as they live north west of Seoul.
My tooth is bothering me!!!

my tokki

Tokki loves to stretch out after running around bit. She is so funny. I only let her out in my living room. When ever I am walking, she is right under my feet; kinda as if she is chasing my feet. Also, she likes chasing her towel, where ever I drag it. Not sure what the purpose of the chase is, but she seems to enjoy it regardless.

One way to reuse jumbo cereal boxes (not easy to find in Korea):

{Mom... remind you of anyone???}

Tokki... a trip to the vet

Well, I finally took my rabbit to the vet to get it checked out... It took a lot of searching to find a vet. There are vets everywhere in Korea, but they are all for dogs. Most people that have a pet in Korea, have some sort of small yappy dog. As a result, most of the vets only really treat dogs.

I think my mistake with Mangchi (the rabbit that I had last time, that died) was taking her to a vet that didn't really know much about treating rabbits. She had been sick for a little while and I took her to the vet. He gave her some pink medicine. What I have read on the Net says that a lot of vets that don't know rabbits will give them the same meds that they give to dogs, many of which (including a very common pink medicine) will kill rabbits.

Anyway, I did a bunch of searching and had a hard time finding anything. A friend of mine did some searching for me on the Net and found a vet that treats many kinds of animals, including rabbits. AKRIS is the name of the place. They have a big website (all in Korean, of course) with information and such. It is about a 30 minute ride on the subway or about a 20 minute taxi ride (not too bad... it only cost around 10000 won (~$12 CA). It is near YangJae Station. The place is open from 9am until 11pm, which makes it a bit more convenient. The vet spoke English, which was great, and seemed to know what she was talking about.

Well...
When I got Tokki (when I arrived in Korea), I was told that it was a male, and he was a dwarf rabbit. Well, Tokki is actually a she, and not much of a dwarf. The vet said Tokki is only a dwarf if she has some lion genes in her... she is bigger than a dwarf rabbit grows to be and she has an uncommon mane... and extra long hair in other places, on the hips, etc (kinda in patches). Funny.
Tokki got a couple of shots - VHD (to do with a viral causing diarrhea), and deworming. She also had her toenails clipped... they were SOOO long. The vet was surprised at how long they were. I am not sure when they were last trimmed, if ever. I tried to clip some of them, but Tokki didn't much like me touching her feet, so it was a bit of a losing battle on my front.
The visit to the vet, shots included, cost me 21000won (about $25 CA). I was expecting it to be much higher.
Conclusion: Tokki is a healthy little girl.

Tokki, my rabbit

(Tokki is just Korean for rabbit)
He is supposed to be a dwarf rabbit, but he isn't much of a dwarf.

my life in Korea begins...

Well... I am finally back in Korea.
My home is quite nice. It is in a very old, more 'traditional style' building. It is not an apartment or villa (I was in a villa before) but rather, a "multi-family house". Basically, it is 3 floors. There is a business on the first floor, I have most of the second floor (there is a small one room deal on the second floor as well) and the owner is on the third floor. I have a bedroom with a double bed, dresser and closet. I have a very large living room with 2 dressers, a desk, a small table and a TV. My kitchen is tiny, though. My bathroom is very Korean... no sink, no mirror.... just the toilet in one corner, a washing machine in another corner, and a shower hose and tap coming out of the wall in between. The bathroom is not heated, so there is a little electric heater on the wall, above where the 'shower' is. I have A LOT of cleaning to do, as it wasn't cleaned by the last tenant. There are even dirty old shoes in the shoe closet by the door. Yuck!!!
I picked up Tokki yesterday. Tokki is a rabbit that I have adopted. His previous owner was the ex-girlfriend of a friend of mine. Tokki is so cute, but is a bit scared and nervous at the moment. I will take him to the Vet this week to make sure all is well. His toenails REALLY need some trimming. They are around a cm long!!! My friend, Anthony, has had Tokki in his apartment for the past week. He hasn't let the rabbit out, though, because Tokki really likes to chew things, and Anthony is not a big fan of little animals. As a result, Tokki has been very bored and restless.
My schools are great. Yes, there are 2, with the same owners.
At 10 am, I start work teaching kindy classes at a kindy school. There are up to 30 students and two Korean teachers in a class. There are several floors in the building. The first and second floors are all classrooms, each with a piano, TV, tables, play area, etc. The roof has a playground and a small swimming pool for summer. The basement has a larger playground/play area, and a Taekwondo school (part of the kindy school, or owned by the same people, I think). There is also a piano school within (also part of the same thing).
My job is to spend 15 minutes with each class, reading a book and then singing a song with the students. I go through 8 classes, and then there is a lunch break. The school has a kitchen and a couple of cooks. After lunch, I go to two more classes. I only teach at the kindy school 4 days a week. I get to choose which day I get the morning off.
Then I head down the parking lot to my hagwon, LCC. I start teaching there at 2 pm. I have 2 40-45 minute breaks there, and finish at 6pm. The classes are small and I am just teaching from books. (I have taught with most of the books already, my last time in Korea).
I have to go to the Immigration Office tomorrow morning to apply for my Alien Registration. I have to have my Alien card in order to get my phone and Internet set up.
